Canon has introduced a new 4K-quality professional video camera in conjunction with a compatible BCTV pro zoom lens for 8K recording.
The camera is 10% smaller and 600 grams lighter than its big brother, the Canon XF705. The lens on the other hand joins Canon’s line of 1.25” and 8K lenses.
Features of the Canon XF605 4K
The Canon XF605 features a 1”-type CMOS image sensor with a proprietary DIGIC DV7 processor. It can record in 4K ultra HD at up to 60 frames per second, using XF-AVC 4:2:2 10-bit and mp4 formats with H.265 codec.
Comes with a 4K L-series lens with 5x optical and 30x digital zoom, f/2.8 aperture, 35mm equivalent range of 25.5mm to 382.5mm, 10mm closest focusing distance at extreme wide angle and 60cm in the telephoto range; It also has an optical image stabilization system.
The camera’s ISO range is from 200 to 12,800, audio gain from -6.0dB to 21.0dB, shutter speed from 1/2,000, and 360° angle to 11.25°.
The Canon XF 605 Camcorder offers an autofocus system through Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, intelligent head and eye detection system. Manual focus is controlled via the ring or the 3.45” touch screen, with the ability to customize AF speed, response, frame size, and use the AF system to assist manual focus.
It has a 0.36” viewfinder with 1.77 million dots and has two three-pin XLR jacks with 48V phantom power, line input and external microphone with 3.5mm jack with 2.4 V DC power, although it also has one built-in.
Other features include a speaker, 12G-SDI connector with BNC, LAN connection, USB Type-C ports, a remote control terminal, a 3.4mm DC jack and an SD slot. It also has 11 buttons that can be assigned up to 100 functions, making it highly configurable.
Features of the Canon 10×16 KAS S lens
The new Canon 8K series lens has an aperture of f/2.8 and a focal length of 16mm to 160mm.
It is built with elements such as fluorite, Hi-UD and spherical lenses, specially designed to reduce chromatic aberrations, spherical aberrations and other image defects.
Price and availability
The Best Canon camcorders XF605 4K is now available to pre-order for €3,854, while the Canon 10×16 KAS S lens has no official pricing information yet.
